Yellowstone以大型野生動物著稱,但也有不少小動物值得一看,其中之一是pika,但要看到這小動物的難度通常較高。有在社群網站上看到有人在Sheepeater Cliff這地方拍到pika的相片,所以這次特地到這地方探探,看會不會有好事發生。這地方的海拔大約是7,200 feet,感覺低了點,但還真在七月初的夏天在這看到兩隻pika!
前一晚在Madison Campground過夜,隔天往Mammoth Hot Springs這方向前進,因為沿路沒發生讓我特別想停車的地方,所以在6:30am左右就到了Sheepeater Cliff這個以玄武岩柱為特色的小景點。停好車後走向亂石堆,馬上聽到pika的招牌叫聲,沿著聲音的方向很快就找到一隻pika。因為有聽到從另一個方向傳過來的叫聲,我相信現場至少有兩隻,但還是先處理眼前看到的這隻。
這是我目前遇過最合作的一隻pika,不會想逃跑,而且不少時候還不介意到我前方2或是3公尺的地方。不過它的動作依然很快,一下子就蹦蹦跳跳到石堆的另一處,拍攝的動作還是得快才行。雖然錯失了幾個不錯的鏡頭,但還是成功照出很多相當好的相片,收獲可說相當豐碩。

因為pika會隨時跳到亂石堆的另一個地方,走在這些東西上面得小心,不然摔倒會很慘。在第一隻pika跳到遠處後,覺得走到遠處辛苦了點,改成找近處的另外一隻。這隻也還算合作,但動作沒那麼多就是,也許是因為第一隻負責拚經濟比較忙,這隻就只負責supervise的關係。
我大概花了接近一小時在這,這段期間只有一輛車開進來,但很快就U-turn離開,所以整個過程只有我一個人在這。如果很多人都在石堆上要看他們,也許他們會感到害怕而早早躲進石堆裡。我是有興趣再到這看他們,畢竟這地方算容易到,而且又不需要hiking,是目前我看到pika的幾個地點裡算是輕鬆方便。當然,下次到這能不能再看到這小動物是另外一回事。
