5-24. Grizzly Bear vs Bison at Hayden Valley
Hayden Valley是公園裡相對容易看到grizzly bear與wolf的地方，但這不表示隨時經過就看得到，大部分的時候，經過這地方看到的大都是比較尋常的bison與Canada geese這水鳥。

2024年七月初第一次經過這時就看到路邊一大堆停車，順著大家看的方向看到一隻遠方的grizzly bear，根據經驗判斷只有二或是三歲。後來的一兩天又經過這幾次，一樣看到一堆路邊停車，但因為熊的距離還是很遠就只是drive through而不停。不過另一天一大早經過這地方時，發現熊直接在路邊，剛好又有個pullout可以停，就花了些時間在這。
這是不是就是幾天前遠方看到的那隻未成年grizzly bear？雖然未必，但有極高的機會是同一隻。就欣賞的角度來說，這也不重要，重要的是夠近，而且它一直在原地找東西吃，一點都不在意旁觀的人。雖然整個過程裡並沒有看到特別的事，但可以近距離好整以暇欣賞grizzly bear一段時間也算是個不小的確幸。
很早的時候我就看到這隻熊附近的一隻bison，我跟旁邊的一個人說如果這隻牛走到熊的附近就有趣了，不久後這隻bison果然邊走邊吃朝著這隻grizzly bear走過來，在相隔一段距離後停下來，於是牛跟熊互看對方，時間也瞬間凍結。我期待之後會發生更有趣的事，但這隻熊顯然受到牛的驚嚇，決定腳底抹油逃跑，結束了這場遭遇。
牛跟我們這幾個人距離這隻熊的距離差不多，有趣的是，熊覺得牛比人可怕。這並不是隻正值壯年的grizzly bear，跟成年牛比起來小了一號。不過即使是壯年的grizzly bear，只要這是隻健康的bison，對熊依然無須畏懼。在Yellowstone的野生動物裡，bison才是王者，不是grizzly bear。
