Osprey是公園裡幾種較容易被觀察到的大型鳥類之一，十幾年下來我自己看過不下十次，包括在地熱區隨意走走或是等geyser噴發的過程，有一次在Old Faithful參加ranger-led walk時還在Castle Geyser旁邊的橋上看到一隻osprey衝入Firehole River裡捕魚。

因為這鳥靠捕魚維生，所以大都出現在離河或是湖不遠的地方，包括他們築的巢。公園裡有幾個已知被osprey使用多年的巢，這次觀賞的這個在Lamar River旁，如果車子從Tower Junction往Lamar Valley開的話，在經過Slough Creek Campground這個牌子後再開個約二分鐘會在右手邊看到一個很長且沒鋪柏油的路邊pullout，下方就是Lamar River，而這個巢就在河的對岸樹林上。雖然肉眼就看得到，但因為有點距離，沒有望遠鏡或長鏡頭的話看一段時間後可能會覺得有點無趣。

我在多年前就已經看過這個巢，包括巢上的魚鷹，不過並沒有久待。這次經過這地方時是四月公園內部剛開放通行不久的中午，既然有兩隻osprey在巢內，加上公園內大部分的service都還關著，乾脆在現場直接吃帶在車上的中餐，在邊吃邊看拉長觀察時間後也許會發生好事。

有很長的時間就只看到巢裡的兩個頭動來動去，不過在半小時後這兩隻osprey開始有不同的動作，包括飛進飛出巢，之後還看到鷹爪攜帶樹枝回到巢裡，看來是要用來強化巢以備在大約一個月後孵蛋使用。我大概看了兩個小時，也錄了些短片。不過沒有看到牠們抓魚回來，也許這在之前已經完成了。
