6-12. Pelican Creek Nature Trail
Pelican Creek Nature Trail是Yellowstone Lake區域的一條短步道，步道口在Fishing Bridge東邊大約1 mile的地方。這步道來回只有1 mile多一點，而且很平，走起來比較像是在散步而不是hiking。即使如此，這依然是grizzly bear可能出沒的地方，據說他們會到湖邊抓cutthroat trout，不曉得沒抓到魚的話會不會想抓人......。總之，要走前還是要有點相關準備。

這步道雖然大都是走在以lodgepole pine為主的樹林裡，但會走到Yellowstone Lake的湖邊，除了這湖所提供的開闊視野，Absaroka Range可以算是最醒目的遠方山脈，而往南也可以看到Mount Sheridan這位於公園南邊的山。
這步道的吸引力不完全是在看風景，野生動物是另一個重點，主要是看水鳥。Pelican Creek在這地方注入Yellowstone Lake，同時提供了不少水鳥喜歡的濕地，其中American white pelican是最容易看到的之一，也因此步道與溪流都以這長相有趣的鳥命名。
在還沒開始走前就已經可以遠遠看到這群在沙洲上的American white pelican，我希望這步道可以帶我到較近的距離，結果還是比我預期遠了不少，加上他們當時大都在睡覺，整體觀賞效果並不算好。即使如此，這步道的名稱算名符其實，確實可以在這看到pelican。

其實步道口旁跨過Pelican Creek的橋附近也是欣賞水鳥的好地方，除了尋常的Canada geese與mallard外，我也在這看過trumpeter swan。在走這步道的前後，不妨先check一下步道口的橋邊，也許會看到精彩的，包括看到osprey或是bald eagle。
儘管這趟短短的hiking不算完全成功，但這區域的濕地基本面不錯，確實是水鳥喜歡來的地方，不該以一次的經驗就下結論，我自己是有興趣再到這多走幾次。如果你對看水鳥有興趣，這也是個值得check的地方。
