4-20. Ostrander Lake


Figure 4-20.1: Ostrander Lake的步道口，是個熱門的backpacking與冬天snowshoeing或是crosscountry skiing的地點，因為湖邊有個冬天營運的Ostrander Ski Hut可以過夜。

Figure 4-20.4: 這是corn lily，在海拔大概7,00 feet以上的步道旁還蠻常看到的。

Figure 4-20.6: 這是步道上少數可以看到廣闊視野的地方，但得稍微off trail一下。

Hiking Time: 5 - 8 hours

雖然往Glacier Point開車時會看到這步道口的告示牌，Ostrander Lake不算Yosemite裡的熱門步道，即使到這公園N次沒聽過這地方也不是什麼意外。這地方主要以冬天出名，因為這湖的湖邊有個相當有歷史的Ostrander Ski Hut，從Badger Pass走到這單程10.5 miles，雖然長度跟從Badger Pass走到Glacier Point Ski Hut一樣，但因為爬坡較多，所以難度更高。冬天走到這顯然不是隨便人能做的事，但相當熱門，要以lottery的方式才能訂到一晚。

Figure 4-20.12: 這湖稱不上scenic，但冬天聽說可以用snowshoe走上去再用ski滑下來，也是這湖冬天熱門的原因，也許我該在冬天的時候再到這一趟。

夏天走到Ostrander Lake不算scenic，而且來回要12 miles也不輕鬆，因此大都是backpacking的人在走。而Ostrander Lake的湖邊算是個典型的backpacking紮營地點，三五好友一起走到這以最自然的方式體驗人生是個不錯的經驗。Ostrander Lake是個冰河形成的cirque lake，跟Glacier National Park的Avalanche Lake與Hidden Lake等都屬這種湖。Yosemite其實也有很多cirque lake，但大都在High Sierras且得走上一段路才看得到，不像Glacier National Park或其他公園可以以較近的距離走到。

大致上，Ostrander Lake不算是個high priority的步道，我走到這的目的是為了冬天作打算，想說先有個相關經驗也許之後會有幫助。
